Sublime y maravilloso.

Maybe this book just hasn't aged well...but the whole book felt sexist and bad. Special shout-out to the two "romantic" sex scenes that are clearly non-consensual! Big yikes.

This book was so hard to get into but it eventually gets interesting. The prologue is pretentious and sounds like the author had a thesaurus to replace every word he could. But once you get to the character’s stories it gets better. The whole book is just world building for the second book, so as a stand alone not great. I am invested in the story now so will be reading the next one.

I liked this well enough to want to read the next one, but not enough to pick it up right away. I think it may be time to come to terms with the fact that I'm just never going to be a big SF person.
