Very little science to be found in the presentation of this book! Composed mainly of anecdotes from interviews that support a whole host of relationship stereotypes, advice that isn’t sufficiently tempered with factors beyond attachment style, and exclusively negative or pathologizing descriptions of insecure attachment, this book could hardly have underwhelmed me more if it tried. The book reads like condescendingly reductive airport reading based on pop psychology interpretations of research, rather than the outcome of twenty years of research that the authors describe. I’m willing to chalk some of this up to disciplinary preference: I prefer quantitative evidence-based nonfiction combined with qualitative analysis rather than a pile of anonymous interviews, crudely passed through a narrow and pseudo-clinical heuristic.

Whatever your feelings on polyamory, imo Polysecure is a much better introduction to attachment theory for those of us without a background in psychology. Highlights include neutral and non-judgmental language, a refreshing lack of gender stereotypes, and practical suggestions for meditating relationships with a variety of people with diverse personalities, histories, and attachment styles. If you’re any flavor of queer, do yourself a favor and skip this book.

Once upon a time I read about half of this book but somehow never finished it. Probably because it was in a paperback format and I didn't pick it up again because physical books just aren't my thing. Now that I have the digital version, I flew through it.

This is a compact but thorough guide to attachment theory and how to apply it in real life—whether you're single, newly dating someone, or in a committed long-term relationship. The theory is simple but essential. It could be the one thing that can help make or break (with good reason) a relationship. A must-read for everybody!

Sure this book makes some good points but overall really hated their takes on attachment, I agree with most of the critiques I’ve read of this where they a) act like attachment styles are p much set in stone and b) you have won life if you have a secure one otherwise you’re a villain. Some of it was helpful and interesting but overall I’ve seen attachment discussed wayyy better than here also both authors were in the IDF ???
