Sharp and witty. The novel invites you to rethink societal norms and pressures.

I feel conflicted because I loved hearing Keiko talk about the convenience store and her thought process but to say that I hate Shiraha is an understatement. I understand his place in the story but everything he did I just despised to the point where I was unhappy anytime he was featured and was made mad by Keiko’s decisions.

I’m just not sure because I really feel like I can relate to Keiko in some of her experiences and the way she thinks but Shiraha made the reading experience unenjoyable.

Well that was a weird read. Keiko is an interesting character, Shiraha is incredibly sexist and kinda psychopathic. I guess this book is a out what goes on in the minds of workaholics.

The first half nothing happened which of course is to be expected as this book is more of a character study than anything. However in the second half there was a sort of plot, a problem that occurred, the ending felt a bit rushed thought. My main issue was the language though, now as the story is told in the main character’s voice who is really direct (and probs autistic) it makes sense that the writing style would be just as to the point. So definitely not the author’s fault, i guess it’s just my personal preference, just a bit too much tell and not enough show for me. It just felt like I didn’t really get the chance to immerse myself in her world because everything was already spelled out for me/ no reading in between the lines.

Also quick heads up for anyone thinking this will be a super fluffy/quirky/fun read, it is actually quite heavy but relevant in the themes it deals with and can be sad.

What a strange book, and I mean that in the best possible way. I enjoyed it from start to finish. It was humorous but also made my tummy ache at times.

Keiko was a great main character. You understand her, her actions, and her thoughts, even though sometimes she can have a not-so-average mindset. Despite her uniqueness, I still found myself sympathizing with her and reflecting on her.

I think it was a great story, but I do not think I fully understand the ending. Not that the ending was not good and fitting. I just do not think I fully understand what the ending is trying to say. That is a me problem and not the book's fault.
