The story was good, but I felt detached from the characters. I can’t put my finger on why, but I just couldn’t connect with them.

    domestic abuse, self-harm

Personal Thoughts
This was heavy, but very worthwhile. Lots of heavy topics, content warnings (check those out), but it was an inspiring story between two fucked up men who found each other and helped each other begin to recover.

I liked it because it was different. It brings in topics you don't ever see in romance novels and inspires hope for anyone.

Riley is always hit or miss for me. Some of her novels are perfect 5 stars for me and some fall flat. This fell horribly flat. I understand what the authors were trying to say with this and appreciated the separation period for healing but them getting together in the first phase felt rushed to me. I do think it was well written in regards to how sometimes trauma does work into your kinks but … this just didn’t work for me personally.

It felt more like hurt/hurt with too much sex and not enough falling in love. But Riley seems to do that sometimes with writing by going “we sat and talked” okay well what did they talk about! Show them falling in love. Don’t just tell me they fell in love.

I made myself finish this. Never a great feeling.

It took me longer than usual to finish this one because it was heavy. There were several trigger warnings so beware. That being said, I loved Silas and Corey. They were two very traumatized but so lovable men. I loved their support for each other. They wanted the best for the other even if that meant they needed time apart.

Corey had bipolar and self harmed. He was also in an abusive really for years that caused his issues to be exacerbated but not insurmountable.

Silas has an extremely triggering event that caused him to be agoraphobic.

They became neighbors and began communicating by paying notes in their windows for each other to read. Their friendship developed very slowly and over time they meet in person. They become more to each other than either thought they’d ever have or deserve. However, their bond did not “fix” their suffering or issues. I don’t want to spoil anything so I’ll stop there. There was lots of spice in this book but not all in a healthy manner.

2.5 - 3 stars
This book fell right in middle of the road territory for me.
I personally couldn't connect with the characters but that just may have had to do with the subject matter.
The pace also bothered me a little so that may have been what lead me to a lowering rate.

I absolutly loved this book. Both Silas and Corey was battling their demons. And i liked how the story progressed from their messages to texting to meeting in person. The story felt so real to me. Even though I dont have the same conditions as the two main characers i could still relate to what they were going through. The akwardness and the fear of new relations were very relateble to me. I loved Silas and Coreys relationship and how they would give each other space when they needed it. They were so in tune with one another that they could give the other person what they needed. It reminded me a lot about my relationship with my partner. So as i said this book was very relateble to me and i read it in a day because i couldnt put it down. I felt so emotional envested in the story and i have to say i also cried a little bit at times. It was a beautiful story about two very damaged people and their road to healing. I love when Riley and Devon write stories together, they are always so good.

Ps. I freaking love that cover so much. Its soo pretty

A Perfectly Imperfect Love Story

I loved this story. I loved everything about this. I loved how perfectly imperfect Silas and Corey were as a couple and as individuals. This story was a lot darker than others by Hart and McCormack but was just as hot and romantic. This is definitely going to be one of my favorite books for 2019. I’m ready to read it again. It was that good.
