¡Todo esto esta de locos! Guts, Casca, The Band of the Hawk, Griffith, pero que esto... ¡Guau! Que horrible todo. Lo tan vil que puede convertirse una persona. Que horrible.

This would have been 5 stars, except for that 20-page rape scene. I get that it was a pivotal moment, but it was portrayed in a titillating way, undermining the severity of what actually transpired. I don't think I'm wrong in my assessment, as I have seen a figurine of this awful moment for sale. To me, that says either people are misunderstanding what's going on or they're actually "fans" of rape. I also don't love that this rape is shown as a devastating moment for Guts. Of course it is, for multiple reasons, but there's literally someone being assaulted in front of him who the focus is no longer on as a result.

Moving on to Guts, man... what an individual. He strikes me as one of a kind. I don't think many in his situation would survive as long as he has – "Skullface" (lol) even says as much, and we see that
the Band of the Hawk dies except for him, Casca and Rickert.
Even though I find Guts to be unique in his sheer amount of will, I think there must be something we can learn from him. I don't think it's something as simple as "never give up". While he frequently puts himself in harms's way in nearly impossible situations to help his friends, they chastise him for his foolhardiness.

It could be that anger is warranted and useful, though we should be careful that it doesn't totally consume us... I do think anger can be quite useful to survivors of traumatic events. In saying that, I don't want to dismiss
Casca's post traumatic regression into a childlike state.
I have no idea if that's a reaction based in reality for an adult survivor, so I'll leave that alone. It can take a long time to heal, but I hope this survivor at least begins the process within the pages of Berserk.

I'm traumatised for life.
Guts and Casca couldn't be happy for a second. And their reunion after everything broke me.
