4.25 Stars – Honest, Surprising, and Funny

Troublemaker by Leah Remini is an eye-opening look into her life in Scientology. Some parts are shocking and hard to believe, but she tells her story with honesty and sharp humor. Even when the topics are serious, she finds a way to make you laugh. It’s bold, personal, and hard to put down.

Really interesting audiobook

3.5/5

MY THOUGHTS: Before I picked up this book, I only knew of Leah Remini from her show King of Queens. I didn't even know that she had previously been a Scientologist, but I love listening to autobiographies especially when they are on social culture. I think Leah did a great job at the narration of her book - I always enjoy biographies more when they are narrated by the author themselves because they are able to emphasize parts they feel are important. Although, since I know nothing about Scientology, because of her New York accent, I thought through the whole book she was saying "Ella Rach" instead of "L. R. H."

The book itself was enjoyable. I feel like Leah described her experiences really well and she did a good job of explaining why she left the Scientology religion while still being fairly respectful. I really enjoyed listening to her and I'l have to check out her reality television show sometime soon because I think it would be fun to get a glimpse inside her life as it is now.

I actually came away from this book less frightened of Scientology, at least as it pertains to me as an individual. If you don't bother it, it won't bother you. Unless you're JLo.

However, scientology can be destructive to those inside its influence - doesn't matter if you are a celebrity or some bloke making $50K a year. The church will still find a way to get $200,000K a year out of you. Leah was just spitting the truth to these hypocrites and they did not like that! Hmm.

WHERE'S SHELLY?

As an aside, I find it irksome that there are groups of people on this planet who think they are better than me. Suck on a lemon.

Also, I never thought it would come to this, but &%#$ Tom Cruise.

I love the King of Queens and Leah Remini. I listened to the audio book and that made this read even better because it was read by the author.
Her story was really good and interesting. I really don't know much about Scientology so to learn more was really fascinating.

This wasn’t a bad book per say but it wasn’t a good one either. I picked it up because I was interested in the Scientology aspect and she focuses on it but does not go into detail about it unless there’s some kind of drama with someone. Also if I drank every time she mentioned “Tom cruise” I’d be smashed by the end of the book. LOTS of name drops and “drama” surrounding people far more famous than her
