Interesting and Heartfelt

This was quite a book. So much information about Scientology and how dark it is. So impressed that Leah was able to get out of that world. Such a strong woman to leave and share her story.

3.5 stars. Honestly she seems like a kind of unlikeable person and the inflection in her narration took some getting used to but it’s an interesting story of Scientology.

This was a pretty good book.  I watched King of Queens, and while I found her character...."alot" - I still enjoyed the show over the years.  This book is almost 9 years old, and she has been out of scientology for over a decade, but I had no idea she was a scientologist or what all she and her family went through over the years.  Learning a bit about the inner workings of this so called church was interesting.  I would say the hardest part was that Leah seems to be know to be quiet difficult and she does a lot of complaining in this book that seemed a bit over the top.  I am sure I am being too harsh a judge.  She was in this church for 30 years and gave them a lot of time and money, so she has a right to be angry.  It just seemed to be a bit much.  OVerall, though - glad I read it.

I laughed out loud listening to this book, and I also was shocked at sone of Leah’s revelations. She narrates the book which makes it even better.

This was so eye opening and it was great listening to the audio book read by the author. She did a great job with the story telling and I could tell there was probably 30 hours more worth of content she could have given us but she pared it down to the essentials. It's really interesting to learn about the other celebrities involved with the religion but also how many people in her circle were not involved with the religion at all, which is why she was able to escape. Especially towards the end, there's a lot of strength and courage Leah shares with us and I hope others can find it within themselves to also get out.

I have this incredible morbid fascination with scientology. I don't know what it is exactly, but I can't get enough of reading tell-alls and behind the scenes looks at it. Anyway, this was a worthy accompaniment to the other ones I've read. This one gives you a look at the celebrity sides of scientology, something I hadn't really gotten before, and a few glimpses behind the bizarre Tom Cruise curtain as well. Probably not a great read if you don't appreciate Leah's brand of humor, but as a dry and sarcastic cynic myself I loved it.

I listened to this via audiobook and had me crying laughing. Leah is excellent, brave and strong.

Leah Remini for President

I love Leah Remini, so I may be biased - but as a fellow New Yorker, this book read like a best friend's confessional over cocktails. Remini's insider story on Scientology is both intriguing and terrifying. I watched her TV series before reading the book so I had an idea of what I was getting into, but it still shocked me. There was a bit of a learning curve for me in catching onto Scientology terminology, but the book was a page-turner nonetheless.
