4.5…I have been wanting to read this for some time and I was not disappointed! Remind is candid in her memoir. She has such courage to tell this story. I definitely admire her strength. On a side note, I knew Tom Cruise was a nut job, but not this bad. I don’t know how he lives with himself. Actually, I don’t know how any Scientologist does. I cannot believe this is still classified as a church.

This just wasn't for me

What the???!!! Scientology is even more messed up than I ever imagined. This was a great and fast listen.

more like 3.5

I found the subject matter generally compelling. the book does a nice job of explaining how and why Remini was in and stayed in Scientology. and the workings behind Scientology are fascinating. I also generally enjoyed Remini's narration.

But! some of the prose was repetitive...in spots she said the same phrase again and again in a matter of 1-2 minutes. there were also times when Remini would describe a conversation and bc of the way she narrated, it wasn't always clear whether she was actually saying something in response to someone ... or if it was just something running through her mind. and while the narration was generally well done... there were times when Remini's tone sounded less genuine and more over-the-top... though it is possible that this is because I binge listened.

I LOVED this book. I find Leah to be so brave, kind and wise. She is a fighter. I relate. I also relate to being indoctrinated. I empathize with her. It saddened me to read this book. But also gave me hope that she will be a catalyst for change. I am hoping others will start speaking out and that the walls of this evil will be destroyed. I hate how cults and most religion prey on the insecure, uneducated, and down trodden people. I watched the Scientology documentary that just came out not too long ago. It shocked me. And now reading Leah's book - WOW! I AM SO PROUD OF HER! I also loved reading her growing up in Hollywood stories. I especially loved her warmth for Tony Danza. I wish she would have written more about THE TALK TV show. I was so pissed when she got let go. And I have boycotted the show ever since. I love that Leah speaks up for people. I wish her so much love and healing. It's hard starting over after you come out of something like this. Also, Tom Cruise is a psycho. I will not watch another movie he is in. He is a good actor but a horrible human being. It's like Christian Bale said when she played the lead in American Psycho....he based the smile and eyes on Tom Cruise. He is fake. And there is nothing going on behind the eyes. And he flashes a big smile. Look up the quote. Seriously, a VERY good read

I love Leah Remini and this book didn't disappoint. I had already read "Going Clear" so I knew about how the church worked but to hear it from an insider that dedicated her life to the church brought a whole new perspective. Fast read.

Listened on Libby

Fascinating story about the abusive boyfriend that Scientology is. There's more to the book than Leah's experience with Scientology, but that definitely is the biggest focus.

I ate up this audiobook in two sittings. Leah Remini did a wonderful job both writing this book and reading the audiobook.
