Whoa. I knew Scientology was insane, but it’s so much crazier than I ever thought possible. Wow. Also, not a fan of Tom Cruise anymore.

I read this book after reading Going Clear, and found this book to be a much easier read. The writing style is easy and casual, and while interesting I found certain parts to be a bit whiny and self-important. I enjoyed reading about her childhood, but found myself struggling to understand who she would continue funding and backing Scientology when she was questioning her beliefs in the church. Especially after the whole Tom Cruise incident, she continues to have a hard time dissociating herself from it. Maybe I'm being a bit too harsh. Of course it isn't easy to turn away from something that has been an integral part of your life from childhood into adulthood, but I found it difficult to sympathize when she was doing her own research and discovering things yet still believed it was the leadership and the adoration of Tom Cruise that was the problem. The real problem is the deeply ingrained corruption that exist within Scientology, of course I could see that there had been positive elements that Scientology brought into her life, but I guess it was difficult for me to see how she couldn't see. But, I guess that's just how a cult works. This book was a quick celebrity filled read. I'm glad I supported her in buying this book, because it definitely couldn't have been easy to write and publish a tell all like this. I think Leah Remini is incredibly brave and she seems like a really awesome hard working individual. I respect her greatly for writing a book like this.

Four star rating mostly due to the fact that I listened to the audiobook. Remini’s recounting of her own story is probably the best way to understand how she felt with her familiar accent, lack of censorship, and sometimes comedic observations.
