This was a very slow book compared to the first two. I couldn’t read more than a few chapters at a time. There was a lot to digest, but it was a lot of the same? And am I the only one who doesn’t like Lillie and Lorelle? Like first of all, children like that, annoying. And then they are actually magical?? And so was their MOTHER?? Who royally fucked up in the last book because she couldn’t stand magic so much? And these amazing fey warriors weren’t able to sense it?? It’s stupid, and I don’t see where this fits in with the story except that they’re trying to set up the little girls to be future mates of the twins that are taking care of them now? Which, no, weird.

As much as I love this series, King of Sword and Sky was stuck on my 'currently reading' shelf for two whole years. The storyline, world-building and characters are all top-notch, but I felt like it could have been written 100x more concisely to keep readers hooked. Instead, I felt exhausted after reading a few chapters and was constantly looking for other shorter books to read for a few hours instead. In the end, I read the first 60% and then listened to the last 40% as an audiobook on Scribd. The audiobook was average at best, so I kept it on 1.5x speed to get through it quicker. I think the character voices were just so far from what I was expecting, that it made it unenjoyable at times.

ALSO: it would benefit the series to have a cover update to bring them into this century. At the moment, they're dated and not appealing in the slightest.

I'll continue with the series, but I'm definitely not as invested as I was in the first two books. It feels like it's just being dragged out for the sake of filling five books instead of three.

I don’t know what it is with this series but nothing ever happens in the first like 50% and only the last 20% is actually exciting. this book has the first battle scene of the series and it’s EXCELLENTLY written so why can’t she make the majority of the book less mind numbingly boring? I wouldn’t mind continuing the series but I don’t think it’s worth spending $9 on the next book so I guess that’s it for me

Less sexy time, more action and we have a better book! King of Sword and Sky was addictive and easy to read like [b:Lord of the Fading Lands|1584974|Lord of the Fading Lands (Tairen Soul, #1)|C.L. Wilson|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1390666533s/1584974.jpg|1577873], not boring like [b:Lady of Light and Shadows|1651313|Lady of Light and Shadows (Tairen Soul, #2)|C.L.
