I wasn’t sure whether to give this 5 stars.... not because the story was bad no.... it gripped me from the beginning and wouldn’t let me go... it’s the fact that the story and what it’s about is so shockingly real and terrifying that I wonder if stars is a correct form for awards ding this book more like 😱😱😱😱😱 five of these lol.

Read not the translation, but the German original, as I am German and that is my first language.
This english review is based on that, not taking into account, that the translation may be bad or otherwise flawed.
Long, but fast read with quite a lot side-storylines, which I thought could have been shortened or cut entirely - but later nearly all of them where integrated into the main storyline and added to what happened. A few twists, and a disturbing theme.
Highly recommended, and while long, I read most of the book in one long day from 10 am (breakfast, my ususal morning reading time) to 2 am sunday. While the overall theme of child and teenager sexual abuse is disturbing, it was not too explicit. A other scenes where, so if you are disturbed by violence and grizzly murder, this book is not for you.
Comparable to Mo Hayder.
This is part of a series, but I read only one other book [b:Snow White Must Die|15793103|Snow White Must Die (Bodenstein & Kirchhoff, #4)|Nele Neuhaus|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1357403892s/15793103.jpg|12495418], so I read them out of order, and you get most of the needed information, it can be read as a standalone.
Also although by luck, one sidestory began in Snow White must die, I could not remember that at all, so it did not help. As I really found this book worthwhile, I will try to read more of Neuhaus, but they are rather expensive, with nearly 10 Eur (nowadays you can convert that to nearly 10 Us$, what with the current stock market), just below my self-set borderline for buying books. As I read a lot and tend to buy more than I lend (and most times do not find the books I want to read on Amazon Prime), I have to watch that. A different review but saying basically the same will be written for the German edition of the book by me.

Very highly recommended, although long, very gripping, fast-page-turner. For fans of Neuhaus and Mo Hayder.

This is #6 in a series of German crime novels. Whilst the mystery in each of the books are standalone, the common thread running through them is investigators Oliver von Bodenstein and Pia Kirchoff. Towards the end of last year, I read Snow White Must Die (#4) and loved it. Sadly, the other four have not, as yet, been translated into English. So when I saw this one in English, I was desperate to read it. I was initially put off by the £9.50 price tag but not for long! Having now read both, I would say that you can certainly read either without having read the other. As with #4, Neuhaus breaks the book into parts by date. If dates appear in a book, I have a bad habit of almost ignoring them save for noting that there has been a change in time but I still like the style. I really enjoy Neuhaus' writing, it's very easy to read and the way she creates suspense and 'hooks', means you quickly become absorbed. This time round, I would say I enjoyed the mystery itself slightly less than #4, perhaps due to the subject matter (I won't give anything away!) but maybe also because I made the mistake of reading a review which revealed the mystery. I was still on tenterhooks waiting to see what was around the corner though. On the whole, the end was satisfying too. Highly recommended!

I have never read Snow White Must Die but I have wanted to. My favorite genre is mystery/suspense novels. I had not problems with this book being translated. I agree with another reader that there were so many character view points that it was hard to keep them all straight. Plus, I did not really think that all the different voices help add anything to the story. Because this is the sixth book in the series and the first that I have read, I have missed the growing relationship with Pia and Oliver. So to me there were just ok. Nothing real special about either one.

Although I do have to admit that this story was dark with the subject matter of child welfare and child pornography. In fact, the idea that drew me to this book with the bad wolf was an actual turn off for me. It was hard to read about an innocent child having to do the things the child did in this book. While, there was not gore in this book the details or hints of details about the subject matter was scary enough. I will still check out Snow White Must Die as I have heard this is the better book by this author.

I really liked this book. It had many twists and turns.

I received this book in my BookCase.Club subscription, and I'm a little torn between rating it three stars or four stars. When I was reading the book, it was really good and I wanted to read more. However, when I wasn't reading it, I wasn't particularly yearning to pick it back up and put my nose between its pages. It took me a month to finish and it wasn't even that long. I really wish Goodreads would allow half star votes because I think this would be a solid 3.5.

There were a lot of characters in this book who seemed to have no connection with each other for quite awhile. It was very difficult to keep up with each story line - especially since I would go long periods between readings. The plots did eventually merge and made complete sense when they did. The ending wasn't a huge surprise, however, since there were many hints along the way. I do feel that the book could have ended about 50-75 pages sooner than it did.

I didn't realize until I finished the book that this is the sixth book in a series. The original was written in German, and only two books of the series have been translated to English - the other being [b:Snow White Must Die|15793103|Snow White Must Die (Bodenstein & Kirchhoff, #4)|Nele Neuhaus|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1357403892s/15793103.jpg|12495418]. It does kind of annoy me that the cover and front pages of the book did not mention that it is part of a series. I would prefer to start at #1, but since only #4 and #6 have been translated, I suppose that is a moot point.

I would say this is well researched and sadly very realistic.
