“Who is to say that an object does not come with its own agenda?”

This was a lot of fun! It was such an easy read with small chapters and a fast pace, I didn’t realise how quickly I was flying through it. 😂

It’s definitely one of those books that I think you should go into without much detail as it gets revealed in such a good way, and Braithwaite’s writing was so beautiful, I need to check out more of her work.

It does beg the question, how far are you willing to go to help your sibling?!

Fun and fast read. I didn't feel that it was especially deep, not shallow, but just not much to inspect or digest. Which is fine! Preferable actually after my last couple of reads.

Anyway, good slump breaker if you need one. Like I said, it's face paced and the chapters are more like vignettes, none of them longer than 5-6 pages so it's really great for reading on the bus or train.

*SMALL SPOILER*

I feel bad about it, but I didn't feel bad for Tade lol he was such a c*nt to Korede that it felt like a dose of (albeit uneven) karma hah

Reading this as the middle child of sisters… 😬 but no really, older sisters are actually just like that. Loyal to the very end, no matter what. I know I’d call my older sister and I know our little sister would call us. THAT BEING SAID!!
It really pulled me out of the fiction that Korede didn’t put hands on her sister. She should have beat the living fuck out of Ayoola. I don’t know a single older sister that didn’t beat their siblings on the regular, regardless of their personalities types.

No matter how much I hate the characters I always love when sisters sister. When sisters are sistering, I am sat. You have my full attention. I don't care if they're good or evil. I love them. Makes me wish I wasn't an only child, even if she was a serial killer! (I'm kidding but not really. Kinda.) Also based off the title alone I thought the book was gonna be set in New York lol

Enjoyable shorter read that pulled me in from start to finish. I like that it was told largely through little vingetes from the sister Korede's first-person point of view. I liked the sprinkling of reveals throughout that flip your assumptions at every turn. The ending moved it from a decent 4 to solid 4.5 stars for me.

The audio narration by Adepero Oduye was brilliant and helped me better connect with the setting and culture of the characters.
