Enjoyable shorter read that pulled me in from start to finish. I like that it was told largely through little vingetes from the sister Korede's first-person point of view. I liked the sprinkling of reveals throughout that flip your assumptions at every turn. The ending moved it from a decent 4 to solid 4.5 stars for me.

The audio narration by Adepero Oduye was brilliant and helped me better connect with the setting and culture of the characters.

πŸ“• Mini Review πŸ“•
The main character, Korede gets a call from her sister Ayoola that she has committed a crime and needs help. This story follows a choice that has ripples affects that begin to build as a body count. My heart felt for Korede who simply wanted to help her sister, but as the faces of the men begin to multiply and her sister's stories begin to become less and less reliable... we as the reader must ask ourselves between the poetic words and the haunting imagery what is right and what is wrong between these pages. I can't reccomend this dark story enough, please check for trigger warnings prior to reading.

Thrilling and addictive, this book had me hooked from the first page. The writing was quick and mysterious, always making me beg for more to be revealed. I found the beginning to be kind of slow and the end to be wrapped up too quickly, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Come for the intense sisterly conflict, stay for the in-depth investigations of an accomplice’s psyche.
