A short enjoyable read, My Sister, the Serial Killer is a story about two sisters, Korede and Ayoola and the depth of their relationship. Korede is tall and plain, and Ayoola is short but very beautiful. One day, Korede gets a call from her sister telling her her boyfriend is dead. The third in a row that has died after dating Ayoola. Korede bails her sister out by helping her dispose of his body, but one day when Ayoola comes to Korede's workplace and meets the attractive doctor that Korede likes, she must choose between a man and her sister.
This book really hit me hard, I really struggled with some parts of it due to how familiar they were. Everyone obsessed with the younger sibling, commenting on how it could be possible we are related, and also ignoring the older sister to interact with the younger - I knew that feeling well. On the other side, the need to protect and nurture the younger sibling and guide them and be there to support them is also something I know well. I loved the interwoven cultural beliefs with the unexpected dark story. I found so many hard-hitting quotes in this book. You can see that even though Ayoola and Korede argue and snipe each other, each is so willing to take the blame when the other is at risk.
I would compare this to the style of Zombie by Joyce Carol Oates.
