3.5, rounded up. It took me a little while to get into this one and having read a surprising(?) number of time-traveling novels, I sometimes feel like the adjustment period to the "new life" drags on in multiple instances, but Straub did a nice job after the second time of moving right along and that helped pick up the pace of the plot. Part of me feels like I wanted MORE from this in terms of plot line / twist / denoument, but then part of me figures that that's the POINT, that there isn't more, that there just ... is. So, a solid 3.5 -- a good read, worth reading, but not sure I would shove it into your hands and insist you read it immediately.

Honestly, these books make me feel all the feels about my parents aging and me needing to ask them important life questions before they are gone. Loved this despite how sad it made me feel!

A wonderful and imaginative novel that truly captures two different snapshots of life in brilliant detail. It is both relatable and nostalgic.
The fantastic element is a fun addition that does not take away from the rest of the work’s authentic storyline.

This book is very beatiful. Beautifully-written, easy to read, and of course the family love that felt so warm it soothes you during your cold nights. I cried towards the end and I couldn’t even remember when was the last time I bawled my eyes out for a book.
