I loved this book in the beginning but the book was soooo long and slow that I ended up skipping pages and pages at a time to get to the end.

(4.5/5) There were truly so many elements I loved about this book. First off, the setting (in NYC). The specific, real-life places and neighborhoods where this story took place felt like a love letter and intimate glimpse into NYC and helped transport the reader into the story. Second, the key supporting characters of Sam (the best friend) and Leonard (her dad). Throughout the various time travel narratives, these two were always Alice’s twin pillars throughout the novel, and I loved them both so much. Third, I loved how Straub mentioned previous time travel narratives in pop culture (such as 13 Going on 30) while taking total creative freedom to “make her own rules” with this narrative’s iteration. Finally, I’m a sucker for reflective, relatable literature and man was this one a contender. As the reviews by famous authors say, it’ll make you laugh, cry, and call the important people in your life. My only main complaint about this book is that I wish it were longer!!

one of the best ways i’ve seen grief described in literature. the plot was sentimental but not cheesy, and the characters were more nuanced then expected. some plot points felt unnecessary and awkward, but the emotions the story brought felt so large and important. reminded me so much of my grandma <3

I loved so much about this time-travel novel, including that it discusses other time-travel movies and novels as if they are fictional and the story is not. It was very much a book where I asked myself, “What would I do in this situation?”
