I was quite impressed with this story as it is the first I've read of Miss Marple. The twists weren't predictable, but you did have the clues to correctly guess them ahead of time as they did make sense if you'd been paying attention. The reveal was one of my favorites because I started realizing clues that I'd missed (even though my guess as to who the murderer was and who the twins were was correct) and it all really did make sense.

The characters were fairly likeable, although the xenophobic views many held were not. It does fit the characters age and the timeline of the story, so it does feel like a genuine look into the outlook people had towards foreigners in a small town. They were written in a way that was easy to imagine and keep decent track of. There were many characters, so it did get a bit confusing at times, but I did manage to keep track of who was who by the midway point.

Overall, this was a fun read and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good whodunit.

Fun setup and plotting for this one - really enjoyed it. Also prompts reflection re: views of immigration and refugees and how they've changed/not changed over time.

I briefly considered rating this 3.75 because I got a little lost and confused at a few conversations within this book and the few times that information wasn’t completely shared with the reader but it was obvious it was there but I enjoy the writing so much 4 feels better.
Christie’s books are seriously so fun, they really are an experience and you have enough clues along the way that I feel like if you made your own murder board it could all be deduced; so in a reread you can see all the clues. I also love that at the end the entire case is explained so fully and in such details so you DONT have to reread to understand what every single little clue meant and the things you even missed are explained.
This whole book is an experience in itself!
& Of course because of the time this book is from, there are some harmful descriptions and talk about immigrants, just an FYI if you are planning to read this.
