Wow. I love 84 Charing Cross Road. And more than the letters, The Duchess of Bloomsbury Street made me dream. I’d like to start saying that I have never been to the UK, and I’ve never really felt the compelling urge to. However, I have always recognized its both naturalistic and artistic beauty. Helene Hanff’s prose made me want to go there, and at the same time it made me feel as though I’ve already been there, with her. She was able to capture the essence of every single place, writing just the necessary to let the reader picture everything. And she’s been to a house near that of Agatha Christie, this alone makes the book special to me. All the trips her new-found friends take her on, the dinners and the wonderful experience she gets to experience are all describe in a captivating manner, which never lets you get bored. A must read!

For me, the book was the best aged wine I’ve ever tasted.
The immense emotions set with the writer and each and everyone involved in the story, these penned stories are a reality for all those who actually lived years ago…
It all started with a romance between the author and the bookseller… though the second part with the journal sounds boring the first half is really interesting and we are invited to have a peek at what happened.
