Witty & heartfelt. Makes me want to meet these people and visit that bookshop. But also i can’t believe
Frank died?! Just randomly one day, of appendicitis!
and how they all just
lost contact with Cecily, she moves to be with her husband and promises to be back in 2 years and they never hear from her again?!
. But i guess that’s how life goes.

A charming record of and homage to friendship and shared love of books. Good for anyone needing their faith in humanity topped up.

What lovely, heartfelt story of friendship, and a touching glimpse into the lives of mid-20th century lives. I listened to this quick, darling little audiobook while doing a puzzle, and it was the perfect ambiance to get lost in the charming letters between friends. Wishing for the charm and personal touch of letters to become the norm once again <3

this is a great read! easily digestible, incredibly human, and heartwarming yet bittersweet. a book you can finish in one sitting, and yet feel changed afterward.

This book is a very wholesome chronicle of a pen pal friendship that lasted 20 years. The way that Helene comes to deeply care for the booksellers, particularly Frank Doel & family, and vice versa is very sweet to experience secondhand.

This short epistolary memoir was the perfect pleasant read during what has turned out to be a sad and chaotic month for me personally.
