got the audiobook on loan when I was least expecting it (I was like. in queue behind a couple thousand ppl when I put it on hold) my first time listening to someone narrate with a kiwi accent. auntie jacinda 😭
As always weird to rate a memoir but it was like a solid 4 ⭐ if not above. She's actually done well writing this (and she's good at narrating, though her speeches conveyed as much to me before) although it made me a bit impatient how the book is clearly written for non-kiwis LOL. girl was explaining the meaning of things or how things work in NZ so often I bet she got tired of it too 💔 or maybe it's become habit after living in Boston since stepping down..? who knows. either way was pretty interesting learning ab stuff I wasn't there for and stuff I was there for but not very aware about because I didn't care very much about the processes or the people involved yet. also was reassuring to learn she actually was as empathetic as she seemed if that makes sense? her image has always been pretty sensitive and down to earth and learning that she shopped at k mart felt like it reinforced that /pos. Idk also made me miss labour BADLY because the ~two years since they haven't been in govt have been absolutely shit 😭 I'm not even a Labour voter (go Greens; also they completely fumbled their last term :/ ) but it's like small evil versus evil incarnate at this point; with national being the latter and actively reversing any progress that was made in the past years. ok that's all for the ramble. read or listen for kiwi political context xx

Impressed with the details for a memoir! The fabric of the curtains, the details of a room - I love the colour this added. Facinating to get an insight into what it was like to be Prime Minister and her journey to get there. I was worried it would hammer home cheesy messages over and over, but it was more subtle than that. Not a subtle book at all really, but subtle enough for me to be satisfied.
