What a phenomenal woman, she did so much for our country and we will forever be better for having had her as our leader.

Inspiring read, a role model with a way of taking you in her journey. A person with ideas and beliefs, a family, doubts and determination, showing that leaders have a spark but are also normal people, leading normal lives. Something we can all relate to and feel encouraged by. The sky and the PM office is not the limit, but everything we do is worth doing, and can change things for the better.

The five star drought is over!!
This book was one of my most favourite celebrity memoirs ever (NZ fav for sure).
Hearing about her upbringing (especially being Mormon) was really fascinating and I learnt a lot about her and why she is the leader she is. Her recount of the Christchurch mosque attacks made cry a lot and I literally was furiously wiping away tears while driving to work. Her talking about COVID was almost as bad. NZ took her for granted so so much and I miss her all the time :/

A long but incredible quote from this book - “If you have impostor syndrome, or question yourself, channel that. It will help you. You will read more, seek out advice, and humble yourself to situations that require humility to be conquered. If you’re anxious, and overthink everything, if you can imagine the worst-case scenario always, channel that too. It will mean you are ready when the most challenging days arrive. And if you are thin-skinned and sensitive, if criticism cuts you in two, that is not weakness; it’s empathy. In fact, all of the traits that you believe are your flaws will come to be your strengths. The things you thought would cripple you will in fact make you stronger, make you better. They will give you a different kind of power, and make you a leader that this world, with all its turmoil, might just need.”

What I loved most about this book was that Jacinda had taken so much care with the art of storytelling as much as with telling of her story. Many memoirs don’t. The politics content was interesting but the tension between motherhood and work was where I found the most interest. This is a hopeful, sad, intense, and at times relentless story but one where empathy and kindness is at its heart.

Wow can’t believe I’m a Jacinda stan now!! Wish she spilt a bit more tea on her political peers lmao, but of course that’s not the focus of the book nor is it her nature as a person to write such drama.

Have an ASTRONOMICAL amount of respect and admiration for her.
