WHY IS THE COVER SO FREAKING UGLY?!

Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I truly liked this book, so much so that I couldn't put it down even though I had to be at work pretty early the next day. It was one of those well paced, fast books that you feel the need to know what happens next and you don't expect the turns it's gonna take.

Our heroine is the president's daughter, and of course her life isn't as fun and happy as it seems. There are a lot of expectations and dangers that comes with being in her position and one afternoon she is faced with the awful reality that she is indeed a target. On the other side of our main couple we have Kian, former secret service agent turned kinda bad guy that saves Emily on that first encounter with reality. I'm not gonna write much more about the plot because it's pretty smooth and well developed for me to ruin it with spoilers, but I can tell you that it's full of twists and turns and sometimes you don't even know who to trust anymore. The theme about an attack directly from the inside of DC was different and greatly appreciated. And the love and attraction the main characters felt was a sweet mix in between all the violence and other stuff.

A couple of things I disliked about the book? Some of the "love scenes" were a bit too long for my taste, I mean I understand that first kiss was magical, but it lasted like 3 pages or so, it was a bit longer than necessary. Oh and towards the end of the book it all turned out a bit predictable, but to be honest? I figured out who was the bad guy the first time we were introduced to him in the book although that didn't make it less interesting, so props to the writer for that.

Overall it was a pretty good book, easy to read and really entertaining and engaging.

My first book by this author.
This was a great story.
Kept me glued to it from start to finish.
Kian sounds like a sexy kinda guy perfect for Emily.

Ugh this book was hard work. I really had to push myself to finish it. In the end I just accepted the absurdity of the characters and situation and rolled with it. However unless you enjoy predictable plots with one dimensional characters, I wouldn't recommend it.

The "hero" basically goes against everything he believes in because he's become infatuated with the president's daughter. From a 5 minute meeting (if that). His internal monologue totally contradicts his actions.

The 'plot' is completely predictable. When the villain is introduced there is essentially the written equivalent of a flashing neon sign pointing to him shouting "THIS IS THE VILLAIN RIGHT HERE".

I had to laugh at the main action scene. The couple is running from danger, bad guys shooting at them, but then they get outside and all of a sudden they're safe (as if the bad guys can't open doors or shoot out of windows).

Despite all this, I can see what the author was trying to do. The idea was ok, the execution was just flawed. With better character development and some quality editing, this could have been a decent read. I won't rule out checking out some of the authors future works.

I loved this so much. I love a good bodyguard romance and I came to this book through another of Helena's series. I just wanted something easy and light. This does that but it's also quite stressful!

Tbh, I watched the first daughter (nostalgia of crappy romcoms) and decided I wanted that sort of vibe but more exciting and this hit the spot perfectly!

Loved it! It's books like these that I'm happy I have the Kindle Unlimited subscription. Helena Newburry does not disappoint. She gives you a dash of adventure and a whole lot of sexy! Great read!

I think that this storyline out of the entire series is the most out there in terms of reality. However, I think that Emily’s connection being the president’s daughter will come in handy when the brothers get together. Kian is the most mature and less aggressive brother and has a pretty good head on his shoulders. I kind of felt like the author was putting Kian into the same box that the other brothers were in: broody, angry, and lost. Kian and Emily have really good chemistry and their relationship didn’t feel forced or out of the blue. I appreciate reading Emily’s journey to recovering from a traumatic experience and Kian was there to support her, not control her or force her to be better on a quicker timeline.
