This book touched my soul. The Scandinavian mythology feels connected to my DNA and I am very connected to powerful, healing women the world sees as witches. Its just a thrill for me to see names and forms that I see in my family tree in a book. I love how Ms. Gornichec weaves traditional Scandinavian mythology and history into her stories. It is also very interesting to me to have a glimpse into life in that time period.
The Weaver and the Witch Queen was full of real and flawed characters but that is part of why I loved them so much.
The story was violent, but Viking culture was violent and that time period were very violent. I loved the bond between the three women and that they had to work together and be together to defeat the other witches. I loved women's roles in the Hird and the community. I loved our Halldor and his story. Trauma played a huge roll in their lives and the characters were very real and human in dealing with their traumas.
My next favorite part was the authors note. I loved that she discussed the origin stories of Gunna. I loved that she talked about her sources. My hear swelled and broke when she said "...we have always been here and we always will be" about her LGBTQ character.
Now, a word about some of the reviews that I have read: I'm not a fan of people who pick apart books for small grammatical errors, and language inconsistencies or anachronisms. Those things are not necessarily the author's fault and do not detract from the power of the story. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but a lot of the picayune crap that I have read in some reviews is quite ridiculous. Writing a novel is not an easy task, especially one written with such passion and research.

This was a really fun read. The relationships between the characters really moved the plot. I loved the setting, the witchcraft, and the mystery.
