This is really remarkable. The writing is stunning, everything is really amazingly brought together, the ending is really really incredible (as is the rest). Thoroughly enjoyed.

a dark, gruesome, intense slide into insanity for a young Senegalese man fighting in the trenches for the French in World War One. the writing is hypnotic, the subject matter is largely upsetting and unpleasant, and it’s a riveting quick read.
