rating: ★ - dnf AND what i did read of it was bad
why i chose this book: got curious after reading ALL of the twilight books for some reason
things i liked:
• the premise was ok. i just wish literally any other writer was doing it.
things i disliked:
• OHHH WOW EVERYTHING. somehow the premise is bland??
• meyer tries to worldbuild by giving us little bits of information at a time, which is a typical strategy, but she fails at it miserably. i still don’t know why Souls bounce from planet to planet the way they do, how or why they reincarnate (if that’s what they do? it's never explained well). details are sorely lacking.
• there’s also no plot. if there was, it was so minuscule in the part i read that i must have missed it.
• wanderer and melanie are only different on surface levels, so i often mistook them for the same people
• jared is… lackluster at best, and kissing the first human you find is Not what most people would do, so clearly the weird consent issues and all that from twilight carry over into this book
• i still don’t know the name of the Seeker from the beginning of the book, and i don’t think i care, either!
• also fords deep waters is just carlisle cullen. i don’t think anyone can convince me otherwise at this point
was it worth the money?: this book sucks. it's a drag, it’s boring, and the premise was cool but the execution was so bad it ruined the whole experience. i spent $2 on this book and it was still overpaying.
