Had the potential to be a really great book, I enjoyed the complex emotional/mental plot that Wanda and Melanie went through, as well as the found-family trope. For a book that mostly takes place in the same small area, it did well to remain interesting and different.

What really brings this book down however are the age-gaps between the main love interests: Melanie is 17 while her partner Jared is 26, and the body that Wanda remains in is also 17, and while her partner Ian's age is never explicitly mentioned, it is heavily implied that he is around Jared's age, and Wanda mentions numerous times consciously lying about her age so that he doesn't have any misgivings about being with her.

Particularly the final few chapters, it is emphasized far too much how childlike and small Wanda is. The infantilization really brought down what could've been a great post-apocalyptic book.

I think I might have liked this even more than the Twilight series. It reminded me a little of the worlds that Octavia Butler created.

Started and finished date - 20.06.25 to 23.06.25.
My rating - Five Stars.
I really enjoyed is book and I think it's better than twilight also the book was definitely better then the movie adaptation. I think people who like children of Eden by Joey Graceffa or Klara and the sun by Kazuo Ishiguro may like is book. The writing was okay and the writing was easy to follow. The ending of book was perfect and I think the ending was a perfect conclusion for the book. The atmosphere was well done and the world building was great but I would have it to flash out bit more.

The paced of plot was well structured and steady paced but it did dragged a little bit in the middle of book. I world preferred is book be a series especially because the book end on a bit of a cliffhanger. I like the character and I found most of them well written. I like the friendship between the characters, I really like the friendship between Melanie and Wanda. I surprisingly really like the romance and found well written.
