promising start to the series, and i loved the concept of a sci-fi whodunnit. definitely did not enjoy the characterization of jessie, but i did like the reflections on what a society of Cities would require to be in any form sustainable. i also found it interesting that the spacers’ entire motivation was to spur earthmen to begin colonizing worlds again. my brain immediately compared this with butler’s earthseed credo, “the destiny of earthseed is to take root among the stars.” however, i would have liked to see any mention at all of whether human colonization impacted existing intelligent life on the outer worlds.
Moderate: Ableism
