An amazing retelling of the story of Achilles and Patroclus, Madeline keeps going strong after Circe, I can't wait to read more of her work.

Absolutely gorgeous book. I've been crying for 30 minutes over the ending 💔 I came into this book half-expecting it to be overhyped, because I've heard SO much praise, but honestly I loved every minute of it.

What an impeccable exploration of the development of Achilles and Patroclus' relationship! I adored the characterizations of them both, and found myself more charmed by the two of them than I ever expected to be. They mean... so much to me. I cried so many times throughout this book- from both happiness for them, and in grief.

This book is also incredibly well-written; everything read and flowed on the pages perfectly, like even casual descriptions of things were poetic and beautiful. Idk what sort of magic Madeline Miller puts in her writing but I was eating it up!!! Her writing style is just absolutely lovely. One of my favorites, now.

Actually this book is one of my favorites in general now! So so glad to have finally read & got my heart broken by it 💖

I hate this book, but only because of how good it was. It went exactly the way I thought it would, of course (it's not an unknown mythological story), but i was still sad. I could only cry in the last few chapters. Truly beautiful and heartbreaking, a term many others have used. A great book.

I went into this book already knowing the story of the Iliad, thinking I was prepared for the ending and I'd just be reading a cute romantic retelling. I was absolutely not prepared, in the best way possible.
I absolutely fell in love with these characters and their love story, to the point where I was crying throughout the last two chapters. The writing is gorgeous, the foreshadowing hurts in the best way possible.
Overall just a beautifully executed book.
