I quite enjoyed this book. It is the first I've read by this author and I will probably read more. There was enough of a twist at the end to keep me guessing.
3.5 stars
I really enjoyed this one. Toni is being released on parole after 15 years behind bars for killing her sister. Only Toni and her boyfriend Ryan didn't kill her sister. As she assimilates back into the real world, she tries to figure out what really happened that night.
The novel jumped back in forth in time, but at least it was always told from Toni's first person perspective. The parts that took place in 1996 read like a young adult novel. Since I like YA, I didn't have a problem with this, but some readers might.
I found the story very compelling and readable. The characters were decent although Nicole seemed to be the weakest-formed character. There was suspense. The constant bullying of Toni in every situation seemed odd given her street smarts. It portrayed her as a constant victim, which belied her strength. It was a dichotomy that I couldn't resolve in my head.

SO. GOOD. although predicting the twist a bit towards the end, this story was pretty gripping up to the end. perfect. it was so hard to out down. will need to do a proper review of this one soon and can't wait to read more of this author's novels! one of my fave so far!
Chevy Stevens has quickly become one of my favourite authors. Her writing is quick to draw me into her stories and develop strong feelings for each of her characters. There is absolutely not one dull moment in "That Night." It was saddening to see how Toni had to endure bullying from once friends in high school and then had to switch it up to a kick-ass to survive her days in prison. All the characters were very well thought out and developed. That Night imo was a very incredible story that takes Toni from being victimized to final redemption along with her boyfriend Ryan.
Wow. I couldn't go to sleep until I had finished this book. Mind blown.
