Not bad but just okay. There was too much ambiguity for me to Dave's mental state and the middle dragged a bit. Once it picked back up it was all right but not sure I would reread.

i liked this!! didn't really enjoy the whole 'voices in his head' thing, but it wasn't all that relevant so i didn't mind. and the romance was a surprising but not unwelcome addition

Haunted house gone wrong, murderer hidden in plain sight… The idea behind this book is really awesome. However, I felt like the story dragged on too long. The murder itself was discovered on page 71 & by the time I got to page 281 & I realized, “damn nothing is happening.” I mean literally nothing progressed in the story to solving this mystery. You don’t know if anyone is really dead or if Dave is maybe just having a psychotic breakdown.. you have no idea who the murderer could be… nada. It too way too long to get to the point in my opinion

Also, Dave’s decision making from the time he discovers the body up until the confrontation is just dumbfounding to me. I know the kids only 17 so you could chalk it up his stupidity to adolescence but it’s hard to believe that someone could be this daft, despite the understandably frightening situation he found himself in. He annoyed me throughout a majority of this book.

Overall I didn’t hate the book or anything but I wouldn’t rush to recommend it either. It was just an “OK” rating for me thus the 2⭐️s

There's no waking up from this frightmare...

Dave is working at Frightmares, a haunted house attraction that is falling apart at the seams. Thankfully, it's the last summer before college, and he will be glad to leave Frightmares in the dust. On a particularly disastrous night, one of Dave's coworkers is at their breaking point, and quits on the spot. Dave covers their set, and is shaken to his core when he discovers an actual corpse hidden among the props. Dave goes to find help, but when he returns to the scene, the body has disappeared without a trace.
I was very excited to read this book, but unfortunately it was not quite what I was expecting. I loved the premise of the story, and the book was interesting and thrilling in the beginning. The book began to lose steam early on and didn't pick up again for me until close to the end. I loved the ending and it had me on the edge of my seat. I liked this audiobook for the most part, and the narrator was great at portraying Dave's quirks and emotions. I look forward to giving this author another try.
