If you like character-driven novels, you’ll really like this book. I’m more of a plot-driven person so when the book deviates away from the main reason Kvothe sets out on his journey, I got bored. Only toward the very end does the story return to the main plot.

I thought this book laid down some captivating foundations but left me with no answers. I loved the world, the science/physics/magic and the music. I am left wanting more! but in a good way.

I really wanted to like this book, but there was not enough world building for a fantasy book. And if there isn’t going to be world building, then give me plot! Well... the book falls short here too.

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I had some real issues with this book. The first fifth or so of the book was really intriguing. His time at the university was rather slow, but I still enjoyed my reading. The tone and pacing was different than the beginning. When he leaves the university after hearing of the wedding, the pacing changes again. It felt like several different books in one, and I know this is a series, but nothing was resolved. I need some resolution in a book for the investment of my time. I did enjoy what I read. I just wish it felt more like a complete story.
