For Jacqueline “Jackie” being a single mother is not easy. Her ex-husband, David has a hooked up with a younger woman. Jackie is ready to get away from everything for a little while and that is why she and her friend, Anne have been planning a trip to Hawaii. The day is here when it’s time for Jackie and Anne to head to Hawaii for fun and sun. Anne can’t go but she convinces Jackie to still go without her.

While in Hawaii, Jackie meets Kai, a hot, young surf instructor. Jackie starts spending time with Kai, out to dinner, and even learning to surf. Jackie can’t believe she is seeing a younger man, having just celebrated her fortieth birthday. Sadly before Jackie knows it, her time in Hawaii has come to an end as she heads home to Seattle. Once back home all Jackie can think about is Kai and how much fun they had together. Now all Jackie wants is for Kai and her to be together. It would take a miracle for that to happen as Kai hardly ever goes to the mainland. Oh well at least Jackie will always have her memories.

I have heard great things about Jane Porter but have never read a book by her till now. I enjoyed reading this Flirting with Forty. Jackie showed in the end that it doesn’t matter how old you are on the outside but how old you feel in the inside that really counts. No matter what the age difference is between you and the one you love. I could see why Jackie fell for Kai. He was hot, had a heart of gold and knew how to treat a lady. Life is short, savor every minute of it. So take that adventure and live a little. I already have the rest of Ms. Porter’s books on my to be read pile. After reading Flirting with Forty, they have all been moved up to the top of the pile.

Not my kind of book started strong and then about chapter 5 fell into a Formulaic chick lit book. Predictable and a little too like "Stella getting her groove back".

flirting with forty by jane porter
she's 40 and it's Christmas. So getting the tree up on top of her car, dragging it to the house after dropping it from the roof of the car,
onto her cream color living room carpet and there is sap over everything, rug, clothes, furtniture. she doens't even have a saw to trim the trees
for it to be able to put the tree in the stand. What else can go wrong and why does she have nothing but he got the vacation home, the Porsche and the
20 year old girlfriend.
She goes first class to Hawaii, after giving her ex the kids for 5 days, to spend time with her girlfriend but she cancelled at the last minute, she has her own driver and she's in a luxury hotel.
Nothing to do but lie in the sun at the pool drinking til the men start to come over and engage her into conversation.
She decides to go with a local surf instructor and go for a cocktail cruise around the island via catamaran. He's 20 years younger than her and she just can't relax.
She does spend more time with him and finds herself and loves how he makes her feel-so loved.
Back to reality and life again til she can go again to HI. Another vacation and she's on the island again with him and his friends.
There is an accident and she has to overnight herself back home to deal with the injuries. Later she goes to take a home pregnancy test
and finds out her world is about to change.
How can she just call him and help her deal with this?
Her friends come to her aid and help her get through the problems and they introduce her to a man at a BBQ in hopes they will get together and spend some time together.
she makes a bucket list and first time the kids are with the ex she is on her way to argentina for the holidays. What she never expected to happen is when her doorbell rings.
Love the scenery, very long sunsets, Seattle area and learning about new places I need to visit. This is such a down to earth book but with impulsive behavior that is adventurous.

I'd give this a 2.5, but I always round up.

Not a bad book. I actually read it as a persona study in handling long-distance relationships in a literary sense. I rather enjoyed the author's writing style. It took a while to get going, but once it did the pace was steady. It is written in first person, and that seemed to amplify what portions were coming from the author's personal experience. Her inner monologues were interesting, and the character growth regarding perceptions and priorities was strong. The mother/child relationships were believable, and the feminine analysis of age, motherhood, and expectations were poignant at times.

I couldn't form any attachment to the male love interest, which diminished how I felt about the heroine. She never learns much about him, and so, neither did I. I tend to agree with those who thought that the ending felt rushed. It seemed tacked on for the sake a resolution, with not a lot of natural progression to the point it ultimately left you at.

I spent the entire book thinking there was no way he was as into her as she was into him. Guess I was wrong. It was a fun fantasy turned reality.

I absolutely adored this book, I thought it was an extremely easy read, but was well written. The only reason I did not give it a full five stars was the fact that I could predict what was going to happen next. The whole book I never had a shocked moment because I had an idea about what was going to happen next and most of the time, I was right. The book was pretty much like the movie, Lifetime movie, some parts were the same and others different but it generally followed the movie. Great book!

I'm conflicted about this book. While it was a very easy read (read it 2-3 sittings), and I was engaged while I was reading it, when I wasn't reading it I had no interest in picking up the book to continue reading it. Because of that, it took me over 3 weeks to finish the book. I think part of the problem for me was that I could not relate to the main character.

Absolutely loved this book! I picked it up on a clearance table ($1.46!) and thought it sounded familiar. I realized I had seen the lifetime movie made from the book with Heather Locklear. I thought why not? I liked the tv movie and at that price I had nothing to lose. Well, I read it in one day. Couldn't put it down. It had so much more than the tv movie. I really liked the honesty about things we face as mothers/wives today. A great story about a woman living with divorce and the challenges during and after that she faces. All her friends are married and she deals with a lot of soul searching finding the correct path for herself and her children for the future. Can't wait to read more by this author.
