The book is, ostensibly, about a bank robbery. But it’s also about how little events in life can affect a number of people in different ways; how people handle grief and adversity; and how seemingly small acts can stay with a person for a lifetime. The author reminds me a lot of Sally Rooney with his perceptive writing about human emotions and behaviors. I cried a lot in the last quarter of the book. But the ending made me smile and hopeful

Backman has such a talent for packing hard-hitting truths between absolute hilarity and the most depressing shit you’ve ever read and with all those smushed together, somehow spin it all to be a hopeful story. I just wish that the bank robber’s character had been developed a bit more. Compared to the hostages and the police, I felt like I knew less about the bank robber.

Such a beautiful exploration of connection and what it means to be human/what it means to be a good human. One of the greatest books I’ve ever read.

i usually don’t read books in the third perspective. i found them harder to read than the ones in first perspective because i wanted to know what’s going on in the character’s head. however, with zero doubts, i enjoyed this book.

at first, i wasn’t so sure if i was going to like it— and being that person, i gave it a shot. i don’t know how to review a book like this properly; i barely read the mystery genre.

the thing that i absolutely love about this book is how it encapsulates different people in this society— how not all good people are good, how not all bad people are bad, etc. however, one thing that really kept me ongoing was the good representation of people with anxiety. this book showcases if not all, most type of anxiety and how it affects one’s person’s occupation.

i took a star of because i felt like i was drawn out of the book at certain points. even if i try to force myself to put my mind back into it, but i just find certain parts uninteresting.
