Cute book, easy read. Not sure what anyone likes about the protagonist but who cares.
The author makes some glancing attempts at addressing racism and discrimination while managing to never really mention race, barely even mentioning the characters' race until talking about something racist happening, which is wild. <Spoiler>the bird-watcher gang storyline, for example. Also a random "f**" slur dropped in there while, again, not really investigating gayness or homophobia or what it would be like to somehow be the only family with gay parents in this town... There just wasn't much "there" there. Why would a mixed-race gay couple really want to live here with no friends and a long commute, even before anything else happens? Plot! Still better than nothing I guess.

Two big detractors for this one:
- the author does the whole, no quotations around dialogue thing
- the FMC calls her father Daddy :puke:
Other than that - this was delightful! Very fast paced, super fun read, felt like a mix between Gilmore Girls and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. The characters all felt well developed, the plot was a little silly at times, but you I didn't even care because it was just so much fun. I wished that the ending had had a little more resolution with her parents and addressed some of the issues that they had earlier in the book, but otherwise the end felt well paced and wrapped up nicely.
CW for infidelity, homophobia, racism (none by the MC)
The audiobook is incredibly well narrated, and I think adds some nuance and charm that can fall flat when reading the physical version.

Hilarious, especially if you have ever either been a member of your community's Facebook page or downloaded and promptly deleted the Neighborhood app.
