This was an easy, quick read, perfect if you would like a book you could easy finish in one sitting. I personally read mine by the sea, there wasn’t a great deal of substance to the book, nor did we particularly get to know or love the characters, however I feel there are lessons that can be interpreted it from it, and techniques for ones own writing

Creates an incredibly vivid sense of place. The character of the woman didn't quite feel real in that way the female characters of some male writers don't quite click. I wasn't entirely comfortable with the othering of the 'Arab' characters and them not being given names. I think this one those 'of its time' collections.

Succinct yet poingant stories of some of the crises faced by people. Camus' descriptions are quite remarkable.

As usual, Camus is beautifully eloquent in communicating a sense of utter existential despair. I’m not sure what I think about that yet. There’s a kind of loveliness in the way he paints a world where everything is just slightly wrong, and unbearable because of it—how he can make you feel, down to your very soul, this painful dissatisfaction with the world; this straining, fruitless reaching for some unknown relief. On that count, I loved this story.
But, it’s also a story that is largely about someone doing very little and being sad about it, which is actually pretty frustrating, and on THAT count, I disliked this story intensely.
