Plotnya amat amat amat sangat rapi. Walaupun endingnya nggak ngagetin banget tapi tetep kagum sama eksekusi ceritanya.

This is another reread after a long time. I remembered that the narrator was a doctor and that he was the murderer, but not a lot else. The mostly self-serving and deceptive narration is just brilliant. I still missed quite a few of the clues that were laid out to explain everything and was pleasantly surprised by a few details. Some of the elements (specifically the dictaphone part and the two secret meetings in the same location on the same day) are perhaps a little contrived but can be easily forgiven for how well it all comes together at the end.

Of all the Christie books, this (and Orient Express probably) is worth rereading with the foreknowledge because it really elevates the experience.

3.5 stars rounded up. I didn't guess the ending so that works in its favor, but other than that... I mean... it's a whodunnit book. When you thrive on character driven novels, a mystery with surface level characters just doesn't scratch that itch.

Well, I was fooled once again. at this point I'm wondering why I even try to guess who the murderer is. note to self: trust absolutely no character, ever.
