I loved this one WAY more than I expected! Friends to lovers can be a bit too soft for me, but this one was so good!

I’ve loved Hayden since we met him in Behind the Net and got to see how good of a friend he is in The Fake Out, so I was really looking forward to seeing who he was behind the golden retriever/cinnamon roll exterior. And you know what I found? A man who had taken the master class of yearning and ACED IT🙂‍↕️ Like WOW. I was not expecting that level of yearning (of the regular and horny varieties❤️‍🔥) or angst from him, and the pettiness and jealousy??? Call me toxic, I don’t care; it was hot🤷🏻‍♀️ He was also so funny and sweet, and just wanted whatever would make Darcy happy🥹

I have so much respect for Darcy! I think as a society we’re expected to settle and told that the honeymoon phase doesn’t last, but Darcy wanted more for herself. She knew she had lost herself in a complacent relationship, and she wanted to get her spark back. Do I think she over corrected by wanting to become a ‘player’ and saying she never wanted to get married? Yes. Was I frustrated with her ‘there’s no WAY Hayden would ever be interested in ME’ mentality? Also yes. But I will take my beautifully flawed and very human FMC’s over a manic pixie dream girl any day!

I was so happy that we got to see more of Alexei and Georgia in this book too! Alexei was so funny?? (Like who KNEW) And I’m pretty sure I’m either in love with Georgia or want to be her🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m so excited for their book😍

As with the rest of this series, this book was sweet and funny. The tension and chemistry started in previous books and really ramped up here. While I think it would read fine as a standalone, I’d recommend reading at least book 3 before starting this to make the most of the pining.

Spice: 4/5 - open door, repeated, explicit language
Audiobook narration: 5/5 - its a duet!

Ehhh, got a little tired of the "I can't have feelings for my friend" schtick that occupied the first half of the book. Also, as a personal preference, I dislike friends-to-lovers.  I was really just biding my time until Book #4 with this one.

I was so very fortunate to receive an ARC of this book - thank you sooo much to Stephanie Archer
