The start was eyeroll-worthy, I got into it for a bit, but then I got bored and started skimming the sex scenes so U KNOW this wasn't great.
Darcy breaks up with her shitty long-term boyfriend and moves to a new city to find herself. She crashes with her best friend Hunky Hayden who is also in love with her but is pretending he's not. She decides she needs some no-strings fun, so calls in Hayden to show her how to hit on dudes. He figures the best way is for her to "practice" with him.
It's a tenuous premise at best, so you just have to go with it.
You just have to go with the description of how the Vancouver Canucks - sorry, Vancouver Storm - run their organization. I'm sorry - they only have 3 data analysts and not one of them has a maths degree? Come the fuck on Bridget.
You ALSO just have to go with Hayden's deep emotion issues coming from being too good in bed.
Direct quote:
<blockquote>"I wanted to be good in bed, but I turned out to be..." He swallows. "Too good, I guess"</blockquote>
No further comments.
The first sex scene was good, but then there were like, 15 others every other chapter and I got bored.
Overall, do not recommend.

Just like the rest of the series, I really enjoyed this book. It was fun, flirty, and funny. I had a really good time, and the very end had me crying along to the audiobook. Something I love about this whole series is that the women have hopes and dreams - they all have a dream job, and they’re all able to achieve them with belief in themselves and hard work. I just love seeing that.
I also adore the trope of him having been in love with her since they went to university together - all of that pining… just beautiful. I love a relationship built on years of friendship, because it gives them an excellent base for their relationship and sets up their chemistry and intimacy. It did start to slightly irritate me how insistent Darcey was that Hayden was a player, though. Even ignoring the trauma he has towards being called a player, and how upset it made him - from her perspective, a man was telling her from the heart that he wants to settle down and he’d love a girlfriend and someone who could properly know him - she just kept insisting he was something that he was saying he wasn’t. It was a bit frustrating.
I also liked watching Darcey grow into her own person, and how much Hayden supported that. He never stopped her from doing anything, and he constantly took the mature high road when dealing with Kit. My copy is filled with excited tabs marking all of the funny, romantic, and smutty sections. There were a lot of all three, and I loved it.
Epilogue spoilers: I think it’s a bit odd that suddenly she’s desperate for a proposal and has been waiting all summer to be proposed to, given her history with marriage and the fact she was with her last partner for 8 years. I know her problem there was with the man, but nonetheless - if she was with someone for 8 years without considering marriage, and was then actively a bit traumatised by the proposal, it doesn’t seem a natural progression for her to be desperate for a proposal from him after… what, a year?
The one thing I don’t like about this series is all of the epilogues, and just how extremely quickly they jump to getting engaged.
