I absolutely loved this book. I have studied Spanish for several years, and I love the language and the history of spain. This book is so complicated, with a hundred narratives spinning out at any moment. It explores the rich and often haunting history of Spain under Franco, not shying away from the ghosts and the horrors that the dictatorship brought. The story is a beautiful narrative of hope and survival, love and fear, and so much more. Every character is so raw and real, with fears and secrets that keep spiraling more and more, drawing connections in a beautiful real story that seems to leap right off the page.

Fun little YA story - especially great on audio. Loved learning about Spain's Civil War and its aftermath. Wish I had read this before our trip to Madrid last summer, but it was fun to look back.

I picked this up absolutely clueless of what I’m getting myself into, but oh, this was such a powerful narrative of an important part of history that to be honest, I haven’t really given much thought about.

I don’t know what the author put in this book but wow did this resonated with me and touched my heart in all the right places..

There were some things I wished were explored more because the author has introduced us to really rich characters and I couldn’t let go of them yet, but I am so glad that I read this book when I did.

Beautifully crafted from obvious painstaking research. The characters are complex and the story transported me to Spain. This book gave me insight into a dictatorship that is not talked about often in literature.

I'm giving this 4 stars, because I enjoyed the setting (Madrid, Spain after the Spanish Civil War under dictatorship), and I enjoyed how the story came together in the end, how hope rose out of hard times. However, I wish the romance between the two main characters hadn't overpowered other storylines in the book that could have been better developed.

Too much info to keep track of in audiobook form. May read it physically when I am in the mood for historical fiction.
