This is Barbra Streisand's autobiography. Her father died before she was old enough to know him. Her mother was not particularly loving. It was hard for Barbra to please her. Her mother wanted to be an entertainer, but she never pursued it. She was jealous of Barbra's success. The book details Barbra's youth, her early forays into acting and singing, through the ups and downs of her career. It talks about her romantic relationships, her friend relationships, and her business relationships. It talks about the difficulties she had as a woman trying to get movies made and to direct them. The book is very detailed. Barbra talks in depth about clothes - those she wore on set, for award shows, or in her personal life. She goes into detail about set design and stage design for her concerts. She goes into detail about how the songs she created were selected, modified, and recorded. She has interacted with a lot of people in her career.  It is hard to keep track of them. Especially as she often uses their first name after she initially talks about them. This is a long book as befits that fact that she had a long, successful career. This book is really for the hardcore Barbra Streisand fan who has watched all her movies repeatedly, knows her songs by heart, and is familiar with the stage shows she did. I recommend it for those people as long as they are willing to read a long, detailed autobiography. I am not one of those people. I respect her accomplishments greatly, but I am not really a fan. I did enjoy the book. But I can only recommend it to people who aren't fans if they like reading really long autobiographies.
