I decided to try this book because I grew up not far from where this book takes place. I found that so fun! And the author grew up in Pennsylvania so I automatically had to give her a try!

What I didn’t expect was for this book to suck me in and not let me go. I could not put this book down!! The narrators did such an amazing job. I feel like listening to the book really gave it something special. It really pulled more emotion out of me. I was feeling anxious for most of it. It almost felt like I was in the story itself.

I had so many questions. I didn’t trust any one. I felt like Liz was being tricked every time she spoke to someone. I absolutely loved this book! I think more people should be talking about this one!

3.5 ⭐️ This story is filled with importance about race and the treatment of black people, especially black women that extends beyond fiction and into the real world. How violence against black women is so easily forgotten, how they are expected to be “good”, but not “too good”, how they can’t be too angry, too strong, etc.

Beyond just the conversation about racial injustice and inequality that this book brings it also has wonderful visuals of scenery, horror, and creates an eerie and tense environment.

The book started a little slow for the first 100 pages or so, but it does pick up and the pace is nice from then on.

I did figure out the twist before it was revealed but there was definitely a lot of asking am I sure? It could be this person, but I think it’s this one? There was a lot of guessing.

I wasn’t very satisfied with the ending, but it wasn’t the worst either. Overall it was a good read.
