This is a great book for anyone who is vegetarian/vegan or anyone who is considering it. Even if you're not, it's a great book that is very eye opening and sheds light on great ways to avoid supporting industries that harm animals.

Read if you love animals. This gave me hope for the future of our wildlife and the humane treatment of animals everywhere.

Love the message, could be 1/3 as long. Not particularly well written or captivating and lots of generalizations and unsubstatiations.

This book took me a long time. It’s very much beginner-level material, so as a lifelong vegetarian, I didn’t feel like I learned much more than a handful of points. I literally read more than 35 books between starting this book and finishing it because every page felt like a chore. I skimmed much of the last 10 pages because I just wanted it to be over. The points were just getting redundant and my brain could not take it anymore.

Basically, I don’t think books about animal rights or animal welfare could ever really work for me since I already know so much about it. I don’t think this book had any more interesting perspectives than anything else I’ve ever seen. I’m sure if I was clueless it would have been very eye-opening, but this just bored the hell out of me. I’m kinda glad it’s over.

The Humane Economy isn’t a book about why you should or should not eat meat based on morals or personal feelings – it’s about why our treatment of animals is currently economically unsustainable and offers solutions. While the author his vegan, his reasons for transforming how we treat animals circles back their economic impact. It's a fantastic read, especially if you're interested in the economic side of our animal industries.

Provides updated stats and progress checks on the state of our treatment of animals since Singer’s Animal Liberation first raised the issue in the 1970s. Frustrating to read about the persistence of poaching, factory farming and habitat destruction among other things, but inspired by how far we’ve come. A must read!
