Read this when I just got out of uni and needed as much guidance as I could to start navigating the professional world. I’d say it’s helpful if you don’t know your basics, otherwise it’s common sense.

Digestible, bite-sized advice for everyday working women in the (creative) industry. Nothing novel, but still a practical guide.

Considering that 1) I am not a creative and don’t work in the creative industry, 2) I’m not a freelancer although we just finished two years of working from home due to covid, and 3) this book was written 5 years ago, I feel this book is outdated and overrated. It shares pretty basic advice. Personally the most useful chapter was the one about building your brand. According to one’s personal experience, each person will appreciate this book in a different way. But it now makes sense why it is sold at urban outfitters - creative teenagers are indeed the target audience for whom this book will make sense.

I enjoyed this book. It’s a quick read, and it’s a good jumping off point for topics related to creatives, freelancing, and more. There’s not much depth to any of the topics, but it does offer plenty of additional resources to look into.
