I loved the way it was written and the careful way it offered observations about womanhood but I wish there had been more of a storyline. I wanted to know more about the main character's sister and her life. There was a page where the author discusses seeing a transperson in the bathhouse. I was mildly uncomfortable because it felt slightly transphobic.

This is a beautiful book! The writing reminded me a lot of a Sally Rooney novel, and the way the author captioned human emotions is amazing. The only reason I can’t give it 5 stars is because some sections dragged a bit for me.

This was one of the most interesting books I've read in a long time. I found the detailed descriptions engaging, making it feel like you were right there with the characters. Everything about it was so raw and real that it was uncomfortable at times but in a good way. Overall, I liked the first half of the book more. I loved reading about the relationships between Natsuko, Makiko, and Midoriko. Their experiences and feelings were so relatable that my bookmark was a pencil because I was underlining so much.  I feel like it's the type of book where it's either your style or not your style at all. However, if you're hesitating, I'd say give this book a try. It really is beautiful.

The first part of the book was really dragging, and I almost DNFed the whole book. Nothing just made sense, and to be honest, I still don’t have an idea what Makiko’s breasts had to do with anything. Everything seemed so messy.

Luckily, I didn’t stop reading, and I really liked part 2 of the book. The themes of that part where something that hit somewhat close to me and that’s why enjoyed reading it.

As a whole, this book has a lot of elements and I don’t know if they are all necessary. Is it important that Natsuko is a writer, is it important that Midoriko didn’t want to talk to her mum? I don’t know. I think the book would’ve worked without several things.
