2.5 stars. this is an easy read and it started out promising, but waite lost me about halfway through. i thought there was a pretty good build-up in the first half with a lot of potential for some good tension with intrigue thrown in to add some spice, but instead the main character almost immediately abandoned all suspicion and threw herself into the same sort of plot that she'd originally sworn she was against. while i don't think it's inherently wrong that she did end up getting involved, it just felt ridiculously rushed and convoluted for her to jump from vehemently hating the type of scheme that maddie was planning to diving in headfirst and throwing her own trauma to the wind in order to help her new lover.

the romance just didn't cut it for me, either. there were some really quick moments and this book is a super smooth and fast read, but there just wasn't anything about it that really held my attention.

I found out this book was released yesterday, bought it, and lost myself in the book immediately. The first chapter or two, I was extremely unsure, not knowing where this was going. But it was a marvelous romance and heist story. Even better, it's NOT a coming out story, except of the musical kind. Yes, the story still mentioned the inability of the women to marry, but both women knew who they were, and both were fully supported by friends and family. I highly highly recommend this book if you enjoy FF romances.

I think I only finished this because it was so short and I listen to it 2x speed. Otherwise I doubt I'd have made it through. It's rare I don't give a cute romance at least 3 stars. And I usually love historical stuff. But 3/4 of this book was literally describing fabrics and dresses and it just wasn't my jam. The romance was actually super minimal. It focused mostly on a sideplot to swindle a rich guy through fabrics. Way too much time was spent on it considering the type of book it's supposed to be, to the point where the romance was just not believeable. Didn't care for it at all. Did make me want to re read Fingersmith by Saraw Waters though. Now thattt is a good book.

If historical romance and Leverage had a little sapphic baby it would be this book.

This is boring, and I don't care for the holier than thou attitude of the main protaganist. Her inability to withstand lust (really? This is stupid) mixed with her self-righteous monologues is too much for me.
