While I knew the concept and importance before hearing this audiobook, the book offered additional arguments for its importance. Additionally, it discusses some tactics to include more deep work in one's schedule.

The book led me to reflect on my habits and inspired me to prioritize deep work more.

My boss bought this book for everyone on my team after he read it at the start of the year. There’s nothing that profound about it. Rather than having original ideas, the author collates other people’s research and working habits to back up a central premise which is already generally accepted and understood by everyone intuitively — that concentrating on tasks and not being distracted allows you to produce your best work, and that social media and other idle activities aren’t productive.

But I think the way it walks through our current working lives and explores why we do so many things that don’t really make sense is interesting and has motivated me at least to change my life. It really spells out for instance that using social media has far fewer benefits than cons, and that the benefits aren’t that deep. The author walks through ways you can make not just your working life but also your home and social life more meaningful.

An interesting, well explained, helpful book about the usefulness of deep work and ways to organize your time in order to get more deep work done. I'm interesting in reading Newport's other books, especially his books for students.

MAIN IDEAS:
Limit social media
Work in isolated environments
Avoid getting bogged in busywork/shallow work
Schedule your day intentionally
Avoid long email chains
Avoid using the internet for entertainment. It ain’t that deep

Cool book, definitely some fun idealistic ideas
