While I liked Christian and Adara I wish the book would just be clear about who or where the characters are from. It was unclear whether or not Adara was Muslim at times but it was clear that she was othered or not European. It also felt like the major conflict loomed up until almost the last chapter before being resolved quickly. The pacing didnt really work for me. I also found myself wanting to know about other characters, like Phantom or Corryn instead.

I read maybe 50-60 pages and just wasn't feeling it, so I jumped to the end. The conflict with the uncle was resolved in just a couple of pages? That seems real short to me and I'm thinking that I didn't really miss much. I am intrigued by Phantom, but not enough to actually go back and read the book.

Maybe I'll try again some day when I'm more in the mood.

I enjoyed reading about Christian and Adara so much! They were awesome and so good! Though I wonder what happened at the end of the 3rd last chapter, when Christian get's a knife thrown at him! I want to know what happened right after, but it's never mentioned!

Nuž, zvláštne, ako som si na niektoré scény takmer vôbec nepamätala. Takže som z opätovného čítania mala lepší zážitok :)

Adara and Christian- such heroic, amazingly strong characters!

I absolutely adored the take-charge nature of Adara's character and the honor-charge nature of Christian. Both were the quintessential romance story, for the two undoubtedly needed each other. I was very impressed with the plot of this book because it definitely seemed to be splotchy on its surface (at least after having read the book synopsis), which was perhaps why it took me so long to start reading this book. However, as always, Sherri did a marvelous job of pulling off the story line.

I was overwhelmingly impressed with Phantom's character, and am quite interested to see where his story line will deviate off too. My only regret for this book is the fact that I took so long to start it, and finish.

(Life's drama got in the way!)

So, as a result, I don't have a tremendous amount to say about the story. Having taken such a long break in reading, I can't accurately depict my feelings overall for the story, aside to say I did in fact love it! Weak though the evidence may be.

3 or 3.5 stars. I liked some of this book a lot but there were a few things that happened that irritated me so much that it took me completely out of the story.

Christian of Acre ran away from his past and the place he was born being chased by a lot of people. They want him dead to secure their place on the throne. When he was very young he was married to Queen Adara, she needs him to help her get throne secure.

It's interesting and fun and the characters are quite well written. You can almost see the desperation of Adara as she tries to do the best she can for her people and her land.
