Not as engaging as the first book.

The writing is kind of annoying and repetitive phrases are littered throughout. The plot twist at the end was good, not completely unheard of but decent

Ahhh! Thane and Laya have been torn apart…

What I loved about this book:
  • Seeing Thane and Laya fight to get back to each other
  • The truth starts to unravel
  • Laya becomes stronger

I really think that this series is just as good as ACOTAR so far and that Laya is as bad ass as Freya. At the end of book one Freya and Thane were betrayed and in book two they need to figure out who was all involved.

The story is a prime example of what can happen when one assumes they have the whole story or are arrogant enough to assume they know more than they do. Thane assumed that his father is really dead because he pushed him into the veil but not all is as it seems.

Laya does sort of become less empatheic in book two compared to book one and is more about finding Thane than keeping peace or doing right by the many.

The story was fast paced though and kept you interested every page and I was in a mad-dash to get to book 3 and see where this was going.
