Love the art and the colouring but I just don’t love the actual story.

This book made my boys sad for Kest and eager for the next installment in the series.

I appreciated Bea’s arc in this. I really felt like she’s grown and become more confident compared to the last book. The character design in this series is so delightful, and the art is breathtaking. There are a couple dragon friends in this book that are just adorable and kooky friends.

However, I really don’t like Cad. He doesn’t have any arc, and though he maintains a veneer of being nice to Bea, he only seems to value her input when it aligns with what he already wants to do or if he simply has no clue on what to do. He also doesn’t seem very remorseful about the mistakes he’s made and doesn’t take responsibility for them. I feel like he is a tone-deaf character that drags down the narrative of this book. If he’s going to be a second to our main character, he should have his own journey of growth, but that’s really not present, especially in contrast with Bea’s own strides. Perhaps in the next book, he’ll have his own satisfying arc to manage. I think it would really help me believe their character dynamic.
