I bawled my eyes out at the end of this book. It broke my heart to see two people so in love torn apart. Makes me so glad that there are MORE books to read (and re-read). I've already started the second one and I'm hoping I figure out how to get some sleep tonight. Some bits of the book ramble on too much for me in a heavily detailed way that I find easy to get bored with, so hopefully one of those will put me too sleep tonight, other wise I will be too engrossed and won't fall asleep until 4 am. Fabulous story, very tangled and the facts reveal to you slowly so you're always learning something new about the plot.
I recommend this book.
Magic! Incest! Blood and death! Southern gothic! This book is insane and unhinged and creepy, Rice at her absolute best. It probably isn't worth 5 stars just for the cringe main modern-day relationship alone (why must a book with so many delightful female characters fall into such annoying mysoginist tropes!) but I'm feeling sentimental today, and this book was THE single best thing I'll carry with me from my earnestly emo teenage phase.
